As locals, we've organized this guide by occasion rather than by cuisine, because that's how the decision actually gets made. Every address, phone number, and set of hours below has been checked.
The 2026/27 season opens Saturday, November 21, 2026. One planning note: Steamboat restaurants are small and ski season fills them. For Christmas week, MusicFest in early January, Presidents' Day weekend, and WinterWonderGrass in early March, book as far ahead as you can. Hours also shift seasonally, so call to confirm.

Plenty of parking, but get there early or reserve ahead. Weekend lines genuinely go out the door.

A fifties-themed American diner in the heart of downtown and a community staple for over 30 years. Melts, burgers, country fried steak, a full bar, and a 50s-style soda fountain. Colorado officially gave Johnny B Good's its own day, which tells you something.
Open until 8:00 p.m., so it works for breakfast, lunch, and an easy family dinner. Save room for the pie and ice cream.
The Paramount

Off the Beaten Path
Smell That Bread Bakery, 135 11th St, (970) 761-2692, 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Rustic bread and classic pastries in a tiny storefront by the creek. The almond croissant sells out.
The Shack Café, 740 Lincoln Ave, (970) 879-9975, opens at 6:00 a.m. weekdays. The earliest breakfast in town and the right answer when you intend to make first chair.

Breakfast is served, and they have private dining rooms available for group events, which makes this a good option if you're traveling with a large party.

One of the highest-rated rooms in Steamboat. A constantly changing seasonal menu running local game like elk and bison alongside creative small plates, with a view of the ski slope lit up at night.
Two things guests mention repeatedly: the trout, which people describe in emphatic terms, and a clearly labeled gluten-free menu that celiac diners can actually trust.

Elevated comfort food built on seasonality, in a bright modern room with seating at the open kitchen bar. They frequently run a multi-course Dinner for Two that's worth asking about when you book.

5th Street Kitchen

Quietly one of the best-rated restaurants in town and still something of a find. Modern, elegant, and warm, with lamb chops and seared ahi that get named repeatedly. Dog-friendly patio in warmer months, complete with a water bowl.

Founded by a Navy SEAL and his wife, and the staff will happily tell you the story. Order the smoked old fashioned, the War Horse Whiskey Mule, or the campfire hot chocolate on a cold night. Hours vary seasonally, so call ahead.

Down to earth, properly rowdy, and refreshingly unpretentious for a base area pub. Not overpriced, genuinely good service, and the kind of room where you end up staying longer than planned. Get the chili tots and the house fries with homemade ranch.
T Bar

Ski-in ski-out off the Right O Way trail, with cold beer, live music, and outdoor seating facing the slopes. The crawfish grits have a serious following. Note the 5:00 p.m. close, which makes this a last-run stop rather than an evening plan.
On the Mountain
Four Points Lodge, mid-mountain, (970) 871-5150. Hot drinks, hearty lunches, and the best views of any lunch stop on the hill. The steak sandwich and chicken pot pie are the picks.
Rendezvous Lodge, mid-mountain, daily 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Ski-in ski-out with an umbrella bar outside. Packed at lunch, so go early or late.
Hazie's at Thunderhead, (970) 871-5170, Thursday to Sunday 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Fine dining at 9,000 feet, reached by gondola. Ikon passholders receive a discount. Reservations essential.
Practical Notes
- Reserve early. The best rooms in town seat fewer than 100 people. Holiday weeks and festival weekends book out weeks in advance.
- Bar seats beat waiting. Most of these restaurants serve the full menu at the bar on a first-come basis. If the dining room is full, the bar often is not.
- Happy hour is the value play. Aurum, Table 79, Rex's, and Gondola Pub all run genuinely good ones, several starting right when you come off the mountain.
- Use the free bus. Steamboat Springs Transit connects downtown and the mountain at no cost and runs into the late evening. It solves the designated driver question entirely.
- Cook a few nights. Every Retreatia property has a full kitchen. A week of eating out in a resort town adds up fast, and a group dinner at the rental is usually more fun anyway.
